Brampton 2 Carlisle Race Report

Brampton-to-Carlisle-10-mile-road-race-15-11-2015-by-Paul-Grindley-1

After thinking of what run to select for the captains race I thought of something that wouldn’t be too long, that nearly everyone could complete and would be a good gauge of how their years training has gone so I chose the Brampton – Carlisle 10 miler.

I hoped we might have more than the 6 members who ran it last year and those keen at the start were few but then the lovely Nicola Shaverin suggested a group entry and suddenly there were loads interested (a little discount turns heads eh ! – maybe Nicola could become race entries secretary if we ever made up that post ).

So what a fab turnout seeing 50 odd members turning out for the race with most coming on the bus and especially with the very poor weather forecast which may have put many off. I was truly proud to see so many red and white vests at the start !

As for the race, it was quite windy which slowed everyone down but it was mild and mainly dry apart from those huge puddles !!!

I really enjoyed the race even with that wind in my face face all the way and couldn’t really keep up with other runners to shelter behind them ! I went off too fast as usual and Rob and Dale soon flew past me but I stuck with my pace and picked off a few and eventually caught Dale up at 8.5 miles who was struggling with a stitch. We egged each other on from there right up to the final bridge where I just pipped him. It was nowhere near the 60 mins I wanted to beat but in those conditions was happy with my 64 mins.

There were some fantastic runs by many and some great pb’s from Charlotte, Claire T and a great time from Rob finishing in just over the hour !

I think most enjoyed the race with many smiling faces running across the finishing line.

And as is the norm there will be a prize for the first Saltwell home so who knows what Rob might get on presentation night !

Cheers and good running.

Jim.
